July at the Gypsy Wagon

Torans

Lots of new and old Torans in the shop right now.  Lots of them made from re-purposed antique textiles from India.  Available in MANY different colors:

I used a new toran at the front door to the shop.

 

We currently have 6 or 7 of the antique hand embroidered torans.  These are early 20th century and are true works of folk art.  Silk on cotton.  We have these in dark purple, seafoam green & a little more modern one in pink:

The Good Stuff

Every now and then I have to break down and buy some unbelievably rare goodies for the shop.  This is my favorite stuff.  The reason for having a store specializing in tribal treasures.  Write to me at info@shopgypsywagon.com for bigger photos and ordering information.

Probably From Saurashtra Gujarat, India.  Early 20th Century Hand-embroidered silk on cotton, wedding canopy.  Bride and mother work on these for months to prepare for the wedding:

Beautiful hand dyed cotton dupatta from Pakistan. Red, blue & black. $24 each. Labor intensive, each white spot was pinched and tied off to keep from being dyed. Can be worn over the head, around the shoulders. Table cloth, wall or ceiling hanging. These are high quality and the color is rich. Over the back of a chair, etc.....
